Auditions
Welcome back to school! Auditions for chorus and percussion ensemble will begin this week on Tuesday, August 30th in the music room. They will last until Thursday, September 8th. If you are a 4th or 5th grader and would like to audition for these ensembles, come to the music room between 8:45 and 9:15 in the morning to audition. Prospective chorus students need to prepare one song lasting no more than two minutes. Please make sure that the lyrics of your song are appropriate for school. Prospective percussion ensemble members will need to be prepared to read rhythms in 4/4 time including quarter notes, quarter rests, half notes, half rests, beamed eighth notes, and beamed sixteenth notes. Audition results will be posted on the bulletin board on Friday, September 9th. If you make it into either one of these ensembles, please stop inside of the music room to get your rehearsal schedule and rules and polices sheet. I look forward to having a great year with our performing ensembles!

Lou Sanders Music Award
Congratulations to Bintou Mbacke for receiving the Lou Sanders Music Award. Students who receive this award embody the spirit of the late Lucian Sanders Jr., who was the former head custodian at Forestville Road Elementary. Mr. Sanders passed away due to a heart attack in August of 2014. In an effort to perpetuate his legacy, this award was initiated. Mr. Sanders admonished everyone around him to believe in themselves and he always had encouraging words for family, friends, and co-workers. He also served and supported this school fervently and he will always be remembered at Forestville Road.
The 2015-2016 recipient of this award showed that she believed in herself by working hard in our school's percussion ensemble and becoming one of the strongest performers in the group. She was always willing to encourage others to reach their full potential as musicians by helping other percussionists at our school practice and become better players. Finally, she was willing to support her peers by serving in a supporting role at our school's talent show. Again, Forestville congratulates Bintou for all of her hard work this year and for continuing the legacy of our beloved "Mr. Lou". Below you can see Ms. Sanders, our music teacher, Bintou Mbacke, the award recipient, and Mrs. Gloria Sanders, Mr. Lou's wife. (from left to right)

Spring Concert
I would like to thank everyone who participated in our spring concert. I also want to thank all teachers who supported the concert during rehearsals and on the night of the concert. It would not have been a success without your help. I would like to extend a final thank you to the stage crew for helping the program run smoothly and efficiently and to Ms. Riggs for creating artwork centered around our movie theme!
