Preparing Students for College and Beyond
As an educator, I strive to prepare students to be college and career ready when they graduate from high school. In order to reach this goal, not only do I ensure that my instruction will accomplish this task, but I also seek other opportunities to help youth prepare for life after high school. As a church musician in the Goldsboro area, I came into contact with a high school student at Eastern Wayne High School by attending a church in the Wayne County area. Alana Roberson is a 9th grade student at Eastern Wayne and is a member of the drum line in the marching band. She came to visit Forestville this week during her spring break. Since she aspires to work in the field of music after graduation, she volunteered to assist me in the classroom with different activities that were performed during our weekly music classes. In the first picture below, she is holding up rhythmic symbols for third grade students to draw in their specials notebooks in order to assist them in memorizing the symbols. As a percussionist, she also practiced with our percussion ensemble and will be performing with them and members of the Knightdale High School band for our upcoming spring concert which will be held on Thursday, May 4th, 2017. In the second picture, she can be seen practicing with the percussion ensemble. We hope that Alana experiences great success in the field of music after she graduates!

Stars in East 2017
On Thursday, April 6th, 2017 the 4th and 5th grade chorus at our school performed in the annual Stars in the East talent show at East Wake High School. They performed an arrangement of Rachel Platten's "Fight Song" by Tom Anderson. Our soloist was Angelinee Venegas-Mejia, a student in Ms.Smith's 4th grade class. Angelinee and the members of the chorus did a phenomenal job at the show and encouraged the audience members to fight for their dreams. Below you can see pictures from the dress rehearsal for the event and from the night of the show. We are looking forward to performing at the show again next year!
Mimi Herman at Forestville Road
Mimi Herman came to conduct a poetry workshop for our 4th grade students on Monday, April 3rd, 2017. She did many interactive and fun writing activities with students that increased their excitement about writing. We are glad that she visited our school and we hope that our 4th graders continue to explore the joy of writing as they continue their education!
